“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17: 7-8
Trusting in the Lord has been running around in my head lately. I think that I fully trust in God but does my thoughts, words and actions really reflect that?
It is easy to say that we trust in God when life is in smooth sailing mode, but what about when those ups and downs come? Do we begin to panic, worry and fear the future or do we have that perfect peace that comes in fully trusting in God?
What does having complete trust in the Lord look like? Trusting in God is having complete confidence that He is who He said He is and He will do what He said He will do. It is believing the word of God and having the confidence that God will fulfill His promises to you in spite of life’s ups and downs.
So how do we get to that place? When I feel that my trust is beginning to wain I go back to the things that I know for sure. I dive head first into the scriptures to remind myself who my Heavenly Father is and what He will do for me. Psalm 23 is one of my favorites to read over myself. It promises me that the Lord is my shepherd and that He will guide me in the right direction, He is always with me, He will comfort me and His goodness and love will flow over me.
And then I look back on all the overwhelming circumstances I have faced in my past and remember how God came through for me then. It helps me to remind myself how He has provided for me before, how He has strengthened me, grown me and led me through the toughest of situations. And He is ready and willing to do it again.
My job is to trust my Heavenly Father with the problems and situations that I do not understand and to align myself with Him. I need to be in constant communion with God, that is where my power source for life lies, in connection with Him. That is where He will speak and I will listen and then I will know just what to do, what to pray, what to say and where to go. I can step out with confidence and complete trust in my Heavenly Father.
