Do not be afraid to ask again

I love the story of Gideon found in the book of Judges chapter 6. Gideon is found by an angel in a winepress hiding from his enemies. God appears as an angel and He approaches Gideon and says “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior” (verse 12). Gideon is hiding, a behavior that doesn’t seem to be very warrior like and yet the Lord addresses him as who God has created him to be and not by what he actually is in the moment. The Lord is calling forth Gideon’s destiny as a mighty warrior.

The Lord tells Gideon that He wants him to go and defeat his enemy the Midianites.  The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” (verse 14).

Gideon couldn’t believe that the angel was addressing him as a “mighty warrior”. Gideon doubted his own abilities. He couldn’t believe that God was calling him out to do something so bold and so brave so he needed to hear from the Lord again just to make sure. He had to hear from the Lord not once but three times to be sure that he had heard correctly…

Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised- look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said. (verse 36-37) …

And God did just that. But Gideon still needed more confirmation so he asks God if he can ask Him one more time to do the opposite of what had just happened and of course God answered his requests and did it again.

God was patient with Gideon because God had chosen him to defeat the Midianites, Gideon did not yet recognize that in fact he was a mighty warrior, the Lord called forth His destiny and He strengthened him and went with him into battle and Gideon did indeed become the mighty warrior and defeated the Midianite army.

I love how Gideon was not afraid to keep asking the Lord for confirmation. I believe that this story also gives us permission to keep asking God for confirmation of the words He has given us too. The Lord might be calling forth our destiny but we do not quite believe it yet and need to hear from God again.

Like Gideon, we are not perfect and nor does God expect us to be. Sometimes we need to be told a couple of times before we get it right, or before we can step out into our destiny. I am sure that the Lord would rather that we ask Him again for confirmation then to do nothing with the word at all.

God is always speaking and He has a message for us. He will do anything He can to get it to us. He is patient and kind and gentle with us in our learning to hear His voice. Do not be afraid to ask the Lord for confirmation on a word or promise that He has given to you.

And then when you have asked for confirmation, listen out for it. Spend time with people who hear from the Lord, they may get a word from God too that confirms what it is you have been asking the Lord about or for. Begin to write all of these words and promises down and you will start to see a pattern in the things that the Lord is saying to you.

The Lord has a message for you. He is trying to call out the destiny in you and He is doing everything He can to get that message to you. Do not be afraid to ask Him again, He will answer you and then you can begin to step out and into your destiny as the mighty warrior He is calling you to be.

Hold onto your hope

This is my song at the moment. I find myself in a season of waiting for my promises from the Lord to come to pass and this song just encourages me to hold onto my hope. When you get a promise from God it is beautiful, it is sweet and it gives you hope for your future but when you are in the waiting for that promise it is hard.

The waiting is where hope, trust and faith can be lost and abandoned. During this time we can either walk away from the Lord or we can lean in closer to Him, fix our eyes on Jesus, get on our knees before God and say I don’t understand this waiting but please help me to Lord. Please meet me in the waiting, let there be beauty in my time of waiting for my promises to come.

It is important to remember that promises that remain unfulfilled are still promises. God is faithful and they will come to pass and we need to hold onto our hope. In Habakkuk 2:2 it says Then the Lord replies “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald can run with it. Writing down our promises helps us to hold onto our hope.

Whenever you hear from God, write down what He is telling you. Record the prophecies that are given to you and any word spoken over you. Underline those verses in the bible that speak so loudly and clearly to you. By doing this you will be reminded of what God is saying to you.

And then go over the words God has given to you and read them again and again. Go back over Gods promises until you see them begin to unfold in your life.  And then tell the testimonies of what the Lord has done in your life. This will help to encourage others while they are in their season of waiting as well. Your testimony points to Gods goodness and faithfulness, it helps to build our faith and our endurance. This is what holding onto your hope until your triumph unfolds looks like.

Don’t give your power away

Lord, even when your path (1)

It was God’s plan to have man, that He created in His image to rule over all of the earth and to be the representative of God on earth.

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Genesis 1:26-28

God gave Adam and Eve the power to rule over the world, but when Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command and ate the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they gave their power away to God’s enemy, the Devil. As soon as they did this the enemy was then given an open door into mans life.

Adam and Eve gave their power away, they opened the door and let the enemy walk right in. All it took was for them to listen to the lies that the enemy was whispering to them and their whole life changed.

This really challenged me and made me think, have I been giving my power away? Have I come into agreement with lies and opened the door for the enemy to walk right on in and have his way? Unfortunately I realized that the answer had been yes.

I had been partnering with fear. I was living under the lie and fear that we wouldn’t have enough, I was believing the lie that we didn’t have enough and that there would never be an abundance in my life like I had been previously used to. I had given in to the lies and to the fear and had forgotten all of the Lords promises to me. I then began to try and control my circumstances through my own strength, which was proving not to work.

Back to the garden; there was no relationship with the enemy before this moment happened, before Adam and Eve ate the fruit. There was only a relationship with the Lord.

Relationship with the Lord is the key to regaining our power, to closing the door on the enemy and silencing the lies that he tries to whisper to us. The only voice, the only words of wisdom that we should be listing to is that of the Lords.

Jesus came to seek and saved the lost (Luke 19:10) and He defeated the enemy and gained our power and authority back. He restored our relationship with the Lord and it is with Him that we can defeat the enemy.

Once I had my revelation that I given my power away to the enemy I asked the Lord to come in and help me to get it back. I asked Him to be the loudest voice in my head and to help me to silence the voice of the enemy. I reminded myself of all the promises of the Lord that we find in the word of God… the promise that He plans to prosper us, that He will take care of us and always provide for us…

I stopped trying to do things in my own strength and just laid everything at the Lords feet and asked Him to take full control and you know what, He did. He began to take full control and began to provide for me and for my family daily. I have many stories of how we received gifts and surprises, money would come in just as money needed to be sent out to pay for things, but it only started happening as soon as I gave it all to Him, as soon as I let Him take full control.

He is a good God and He is just waiting to come in and do good things for us. It is time for us to stop listening to the lies of the enemy, lies that we will never have enough or that we will never be enough. We need to take back our power and place our hope and trust in the Lord and have faith that He will always be our enough.

What are you giving your power too? What is ruling your life? What are you trying to do in your own strength that you should be giving over to the Lord?

He has a plan for me. Picking up shattered dreams and starting again.

I had morning tea with a friend recently. We sat together and chatted for what only felt like an hour but ended up being an entire morning. We were so busy solving all of the worlds problems, encouraging and inspiring one another to live bigger and bolder lives that time had simply slipped away from us. Those I find are the best kind of morning teas and the best kind of friendships to have.

My friend and I both had a dream, hope, vision that had recently been shattered. In fact it felt like the dream had been blown apart and stripped away all at the hands of the enemy.

We were feeling deflated and defeated crying out “But God you planted this vision in our hearts and now it has been torn apart!”. We were left with more questions than answers over its failure but yet deep down inside the dream, hope and vision was still burning away.

God says that He has plans and dreams for us and He also says to seek Me and find Me when you seek me with all your heart. We needed to seek Him, now more than ever as we had been met by the enemy on our path to our destiny.

So we came face down before the Lord and I heard Him whisper to me to go back and start again. To go back to the very dream that we started with and pick it back up again. Now the dream will need to look a little different than it did before but pick it up and start again.

So now we are in the process of picking up our dream once again and starting over. We are throwing more wood on the fire burning in our hearts and now we are watching it burn ferociously. It is exciting, we feel passionate once again for the plan that God has called us to.

God has called us to go from glory to glory and not to fall flat on our face in failure. The plans He has for us bring hope to our future. When we meet the enemy along the way we just need to side step and not be side tracked. He has side lined our dream for months now but now we are taking our dream back and breathing life into it once again.

What plans have you had that have been thwarted? I encourage you to side step and not be side tracked by the enemy to destroy those plans. Pick back up your dreams, hope and visions and begin to run with them again.

…For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29 verse 11-13

This is my song at the moment. I find myself singing it over and over again, declaring it over myself until I fully believe it.

It helps me to remember that in every season, and through all the changes that I may go through, God is always near. He gives me strength, He gives me peace and He is my anchor through every storm. God holds my world in the palm of His hand, where else would I want to be.

It reminds me to hold on to hope, to hold on to grace and to fully let go of everything that I am trying to hold on so tightly to and just surrender to His ways. For His ways are perfect, His timing is perfect and what He has for me is far better then anything that I could come up with on my own.

The more that I sing the words the more I believe in them. The more that I sing that He is the anchor for my soul and that He will never change, the more I believe it.

The more that I sing that His loving hand is always there to guide me, that He is my great redeemer and constant friend and that His mercy and grace always follows me, the more I believe it. Then I can begin to walk in the peace and freedom that those words bring.

I encourage you to listen to the song. The more that you listen and sing the words the more you will believe in them and they will become a comfort for your soul too. You can then begin to walk through your season in the peace and freedom that these words bring.
