Hang in there warriors

I recently shared with a dear friend of mine my feelings of weariness. She began to pray and interceed for me and she sent me these beautiful words. They encouraged me so much that I had to share them with you…

…She is weary, weary of body, weary of spirit and weary of heart. She is weary not from corporate battles or legal wrangles, she is not weary from pursuing her right in life, or adding to her career. Her weariness does not come from over exertion in pursuit of a firm body or from pursuing her own lifestyle goals.

Her wariness comes from the front line battle; she is a weary warrior, a warrior on the front line. My friend stands with a directive from the King, her armour on, her sword at the ready, her stance defensive and…. she does the washing, cooks dinner and loves the little people God has brought into her life.

To all appearances my friend looks like the mother of young children, but in reality, God’s Supernatural Reality, she is a destiny bender, a generation changer and one of the scariest warriors the enemy has every faced.

She is a mum.

And with every act of kindness when she is overwhelmed, and far beyond herself, she brakes enemy strong holds. With every deep breath, followed by a word of wisdom supplied by Grace she is shaping and moulding the next dynamic generation of Gods Kingdom people. With every sacrifice of self, she robs the enemy of what he wants most – hurt, alone and damaged children.

She is laying down of her own life, for her children. She gives up so much, so much of herself, her needs, her wants, her time, her energy and she does this to impact tomorrow, and SHE IS impacting tomorrow beyond even what she is aware of. Her daily tasks are having eternal consequences with heavenly rewards.

Hang in there my warrior friend, your story has not stalled, it is not lost amongst the piles of dishes and baskets of dirty laundry. In fact you are at the climax of your story, the part where everything matters most! You are in the battle, battle weary but not overcome, tired but not defeated, low but victorious….{written by Sian Birch}

Hang in there warriors, you will be victorious!

Learning the ways of a warrior : part four

A spiritual warrior is fearless. They are fearless because of perfect love.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18

A warrior knows and understands the Fathers unconditional love for them. They know their identity, they know that the they are a son or daughter of the King, fully loved, fully accepted and fully redeemed. They have a deep and personal relationship with God where they hear that they are loved and they feel that they are loved.

It is their intimacy with the Lord that makes a warrior so intimidating to the enemy. Their confidence in the Fathers love, their knowledge of their identity, and the power of the Holy Spirit all come together and make them feel so loved that they lose all fear.

The warrior knows that they are loved and accepted and therefore they are not afraid to make mistakes, they are not afraid to lose. They know that God is for them and will never abandon them, if things do not go to plan they do not abandon their faith. They know that God is a good God and that He works all things together for good for those who love Him. So they wait on the promises of the Lord to come through, they are patient and faithful.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

To become fearless we need to remember that Gods perfect love casts out all fear. We need to be so focused on, surrounded by and consumed with the Father receiving His perfect love, that we become fearless. Nothing can get to us because we know this perfect love. This love strengthens us, it gives us perfect peace, it is our inheritance, it can not be taken away from us, it encourages us and it enables us to do all things.

I really love the song called This love by Housefires. Its words are powerful and true. Every morning when I wake to face the day I am surrounded by the Lords perfect love. It is every moment of every day that the Lord is there with His perfect love. We just need to have open eyes, ears and hearts to see it. His love carries us, strengthens us and encourages us through every moment, everyday.

I encourage you to listen to this powerful song, let the lyrics flood your heart and soul. Every time I listen to this song I can feel the Lords love pouring out into me, it makes me stop and feel His presence fall. It encourages me, strengthens me, inspires me, reminds me and fills me with the joy of the Lord.

I hope you have enjoyed this series on learning the ways of a spiritual warrior as much as I have enjoyed writing them and I pray that you feel inspired to step up and become a hero of faith.

Learning the ways of a warrior : part three

woman with bible

Spiritual warriors are steadfast. They hold onto the Lord, they persist even when they face difficult circumstances and they overcome whatever the enemy tries to put in their way.

Warriors don’t just survive the circumstances that come their way, they overcome them and they experience break through. The enemy’s attacks can not keep them back from stepping into what God has for them.

If we want to see breakthrough in our lives, to begin to start living out the wonderful plans that God has in store for us, we need to make sure that the enemy has no power over us.

We cannot take ground from the enemy if the enemy has ground in us. The enemy has come to destroy us by stealing our inheritance and killing our relationships, especially with God. Graham Cooke

Spiritual warriors live as those made alive in Christ. They set their hearts and minds on the things above. They put to death anything that the enemy can use against them to bring them shame or to break their relationship with the Lord. These words found in the book of Colossians tell us how to best live our lives so that the enemy would have no hold over us.

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.  You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3: 1-17

A spiritual warrior knows these words well and has them written on their heart. Not only do they know them well but they live them out. If we can live in this way too then the enemy will have no hold over us.

Learning the ways of a warrior – part two

God is always speaking and spiritual warriors are always listening. Warriors sit at the feet of God. They spend time in His presence and listen for His voice.

Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10

In these quiet moments with the Lord, warriors can discover what God wants them to do, how He wants them to respond, what they need to believe or what they need to pray for in the difficult things they are dealing with.

Spiritual warriors pray with God and not towards Him. They pray with the answer in mind and not to try and find one. They go into the presence of the Lord so that they can come out fully equipped to deal with whatever the enemy is trying to throw at them.

Warriors always focus on God and not on the difficult thing that they are faced with. They never let the enemy get bigger or louder than the voice of the Lord. The warrior will step back from the situation, draw close to God and listen for His voice, they will worship, rejoice and give thanks to the Lord.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

By doing this, warriors shift their attention from the problem and they focus on the solution. Remember that the enemy is working to change the atmosphere around us to one that is negative and sinister. When the warrior focuses on God and His goodness the enemy can not have his way.

Learning the ways of a warrior : part one

I love reading about the hero’s of the faith in the bible. I recently wrote about the hero Deborah (to read that just click here) she arose as a shinning light for her people. The bible is full of stories of people who accomplished great things for the kingdom of God. They were hero’s, spiritual warriors who were not intimidated by the enemy. They knew that they were children of an almighty God who always overcomes.

I love this idea of being a spiritual warrior. A lot of the time I definitely do not feel like a warrior but deep in my heart it is what I hope to be. When the storms of life begin to rise I want to be able to rise above them and not be intimidated by what comes my way.

So what are the characteristics of a spiritual warrior?

To become a spiritual warrior we need to know who Jesus is for us. John chapter 14 is a great place to discover who Jesus is for us and I encourage you to go and read it for yourself. Jesus promises to never leave us, He promises to live inside of us and to passionately love us. He gives us His perfect peace which allows us to not yield to fear but instead to be courageous.

Spiritual warriors understand these promises and they know Gods heart towards them. What you think about God is so important. How you perceive God is how you are going to receive God in your day. God is good, therefore we must think of His goodness.

Spiritual Warriors know that God will always help them. They know that He will never let them down. In times of trouble they stand firm in God. When circumstances are against them, they seek Gods heart for them and they hide in who He is for them. He is our rock, our fortress and our hiding place.

In John 14 Jesus tells us that if we follow Him in faith and believe in Him then we will see even greater miracles then what He has already done in His time here on earth. He does whatever we ask Him to do when we ask in his name.

“I tell you this timeless truth: the person who follows me in faith, believing in me, will do the same mighty miracles that I do – even greater miracles than these because I go to be with my Father! For I will do whatever you ask me to do when you ask me in my name. And that is how the Son will show what the Father is really like and bring glory to Him. Ask me anything in my name, and I will do it for you”. John 14: 12-14

Spiritual warriors know and believe firmly in this promise. When they are faced with tough circumstances they are not moved by the enemy because they know that God is with them and will do anything we ask in the name of Jesus.
