I love reading about the hero’s of the faith in the bible. I recently wrote about the hero Deborah (to read that just click here) she arose as a shinning light for her people. The bible is full of stories of people who accomplished great things for the kingdom of God. They were hero’s, spiritual warriors who were not intimidated by the enemy. They knew that they were children of an almighty God who always overcomes.
I love this idea of being a spiritual warrior. A lot of the time I definitely do not feel like a warrior but deep in my heart it is what I hope to be. When the storms of life begin to rise I want to be able to rise above them and not be intimidated by what comes my way.
So what are the characteristics of a spiritual warrior?
To become a spiritual warrior we need to know who Jesus is for us. John chapter 14 is a great place to discover who Jesus is for us and I encourage you to go and read it for yourself. Jesus promises to never leave us, He promises to live inside of us and to passionately love us. He gives us His perfect peace which allows us to not yield to fear but instead to be courageous.
Spiritual warriors understand these promises and they know Gods heart towards them. What you think about God is so important. How you perceive God is how you are going to receive God in your day. God is good, therefore we must think of His goodness.
Spiritual Warriors know that God will always help them. They know that He will never let them down. In times of trouble they stand firm in God. When circumstances are against them, they seek Gods heart for them and they hide in who He is for them. He is our rock, our fortress and our hiding place.
In John 14 Jesus tells us that if we follow Him in faith and believe in Him then we will see even greater miracles then what He has already done in His time here on earth. He does whatever we ask Him to do when we ask in his name.
“I tell you this timeless truth: the person who follows me in faith, believing in me, will do the same mighty miracles that I do – even greater miracles than these because I go to be with my Father! For I will do whatever you ask me to do when you ask me in my name. And that is how the Son will show what the Father is really like and bring glory to Him. Ask me anything in my name, and I will do it for you”. John 14: 12-14
Spiritual warriors know and believe firmly in this promise. When they are faced with tough circumstances they are not moved by the enemy because they know that God is with them and will do anything we ask in the name of Jesus.
