What is He calling you to do?

It should not surprise us when God calls us to do something that seems outrageous because Jesus told us that we are destined to do greater things.  Sometimes He calls us to do something that seems a little out of our comfort zone and sometimes it is something that is way outside the box .

Jesus said in John chapter 14 verse 12...“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father”.

This promise was not just for Jesus’ disciples, it is a promise to all believers for Jesus said “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me” .

He then goes on to say that He will send us help, He will send us the Holy Spirit.

…”And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”. John 14: 16-17

We are not alone in our calling. When God calls us to do those things that seem outrageous, He is with us, helping us and giving us the ability to do the very thing that we may not be qualified to do but the Holy Spirit qualifies us to do it.

We just need to have obedience and faith. When God gives us a calling He is asking us to partner with His heart, we just need to trust Him and have obedience and step out. We need to have faith that He knows what He is doing, He will go with with us and help us along the way. We just need to be in tune with Him every step of the way.

That is often where we go wrong, the tuning in every step along the way bit. We hear God calling us to do something and we step out and start to do it but we forget to keep listening to Him along the way. We thought we got all our instructions at the beginning but in actual fact we may have just got the first step and we need to check back in all the time to find out the next part of the journey.

What is God calling you to do? I encourage you to not be afraid but to lean in and listen to what He is saying. Remember that you are not alone in it, you are partnering with God and He will strengthen you, speak to you and guide you along every step of the way. Keep in tune with Him and step out in obedience and faith and try to enjoy the journey.

Don’t give your power away

Lord, even when your path (1)

It was God’s plan to have man, that He created in His image to rule over all of the earth and to be the representative of God on earth.

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Genesis 1:26-28

God gave Adam and Eve the power to rule over the world, but when Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command and ate the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they gave their power away to God’s enemy, the Devil. As soon as they did this the enemy was then given an open door into mans life.

Adam and Eve gave their power away, they opened the door and let the enemy walk right in. All it took was for them to listen to the lies that the enemy was whispering to them and their whole life changed.

This really challenged me and made me think, have I been giving my power away? Have I come into agreement with lies and opened the door for the enemy to walk right on in and have his way? Unfortunately I realized that the answer had been yes.

I had been partnering with fear. I was living under the lie and fear that we wouldn’t have enough, I was believing the lie that we didn’t have enough and that there would never be an abundance in my life like I had been previously used to. I had given in to the lies and to the fear and had forgotten all of the Lords promises to me. I then began to try and control my circumstances through my own strength, which was proving not to work.

Back to the garden; there was no relationship with the enemy before this moment happened, before Adam and Eve ate the fruit. There was only a relationship with the Lord.

Relationship with the Lord is the key to regaining our power, to closing the door on the enemy and silencing the lies that he tries to whisper to us. The only voice, the only words of wisdom that we should be listing to is that of the Lords.

Jesus came to seek and saved the lost (Luke 19:10) and He defeated the enemy and gained our power and authority back. He restored our relationship with the Lord and it is with Him that we can defeat the enemy.

Once I had my revelation that I given my power away to the enemy I asked the Lord to come in and help me to get it back. I asked Him to be the loudest voice in my head and to help me to silence the voice of the enemy. I reminded myself of all the promises of the Lord that we find in the word of God… the promise that He plans to prosper us, that He will take care of us and always provide for us…

I stopped trying to do things in my own strength and just laid everything at the Lords feet and asked Him to take full control and you know what, He did. He began to take full control and began to provide for me and for my family daily. I have many stories of how we received gifts and surprises, money would come in just as money needed to be sent out to pay for things, but it only started happening as soon as I gave it all to Him, as soon as I let Him take full control.

He is a good God and He is just waiting to come in and do good things for us. It is time for us to stop listening to the lies of the enemy, lies that we will never have enough or that we will never be enough. We need to take back our power and place our hope and trust in the Lord and have faith that He will always be our enough.

What are you giving your power too? What is ruling your life? What are you trying to do in your own strength that you should be giving over to the Lord?

When you find yourself feeling broken

when it falls apart You come running with open arms

Sometimes I find myself feeling a little broken. Life has left me feeling a little crushed, defeated and overwhelmed. It is not one thing that has left me feeling this way but a string of little things that have come across my path along my way.

I just feel like I need to be put back together, or mended before the hole in me gets any bigger. When I start to feel this way I make sure that I find the time to shut myself away and just spend time with the Lord. Before I run to a friend or to my husband to pour out my feelings and ask for their advice, I spend time with the Lord and listen to His words of wisdom first.

I see it as an invitation for the Lord to come deeper into my life. I see it as a chance for me to experience more healing, more freedom, more revelation and more intimacy with the Lord. And every time that I go to Him, I get just what I need.

I love these words from one of my favorite songs by United Pursuit. “when it falls apart, You come running with open arms”. Usually it feels like I am running to the Lord all the time but it is actually Him running to me. He delights in doing good for me and it is His greatest joy to do so. He delights in coming in and helping me to put all my pieces back together. It is up to me to let go of what I can not hold and to hold on to Him.

What I have discovered over time is that it is ok to feel broken and to admit that you feel that way, to admit that you don’t have it all together and that you are starting to come apart. There is no shame in admitting your weaknesses and you shouldn’t hide them either. It is not helpful in anyway to hide your feelings and to stuff all your pain deep down. Instead we should be trying to process it with the help of the Lord and the Holy Spirit.

By doing that it will help us to walk in His freedom that we talk about having in Christ. I know that I want to walk in His freedom so I am going to stop stuffing all my pain down and internalizing it and I am going to bring it to the surface and deal with it. I am going to let go of what I can not hold and hold onto Him.

Dealing with our dark side : part two

in darkness

There is no point keeping our bad habits hidden. God wants to shed light on our dark spots so that we can get back to being the person He created us to be. So where do we begin?

It is important to remember to not feel shame over this process, this is a chance for us to grow and become more like Jesus as we weed these bad habits out of our lives. Shame is often what keeps us in the cycle of not being able to get rid of our dark side all together.

The first thing we need to do is to recognize the behavior or thought pattern that we want to change. What is it that we do, say or think that is not of the Lord, not the way He created us and not healthy for us to be. Like feelings of jealousy, being a resentful and angry person, lashing out at our loved ones, lack of self control…..

It is then best to repent over these things, to seek the Lords forgiveness. The enemy loves to use our faults against us, making us feel shame over the way we think and behave but the enemy will have no power over us if we have repented and been forgiven.

We need to come before God and ask Him to speak into our situation. He is waiting and willing to help us we just need to ask Him. We need to seek His wisdom and guidance, we can not go through this process on our own and He does not expect us to either. He will speak to us and He will also cover us with His love and affection and will fill us with courage and strength to get through this process.

Then we must discover what the Lord thinks about us and the qualities He actually created in us and then start to become that person. The list of bad habits that we have, the behaviors and thought patterns that we are trying to weed out of our lives will not be a part of the things that He says about us. He sees the good in us and the wonderful person that we are going to become.

Our ultimate goal is to become more like Jesus. We need to read the word to find out more about Him and what He did, to encounter Jesus and His nature for ourselves. What we feed ourselves will ultimately flow out of us. The more we read and focus on Jesus nature the more we will grow to become like Him.

Each time we start to operate in that bad habit or thought pattern we must go back and start the process again, repent, receive His forgiveness, remind ourselves who we really are and then start to behave in that way.

We are all mid process of becoming a better person. We must show grace to one another and encourage each other as we are going through this process of becoming more like the person God created us to be and to becoming more like Jesus.

Dealing with our dark side : part one

I had a moment the other day when my old bad habits began to surface again. My bad habits were thoughts and feelings that I thought I had dealt with and moved on from but they came creeping up on me again.

I found myself becoming unhinged. I was becoming upset and all my hard work was being slowly unraveled. I was only having a simple conversation with someone but that was enough to get me thinking like I used to think in my old way of living which was not healthy.

I had forgotten who I was, who God created me to be, that I was worthy and loved and I had forgotten all of Gods promises to me. The light in me was slowly fading and my dark side was being revealed again.

I just wanted to hide, to eat chocolate and watch re-runs of Friends over and over again but I felt God calling me to come and spend time with Him. Thankfully I did because He showed me that I should not feel shame over slipping back into my old thought patterns and that my dark side coming to the surface was just an opportunity for me to deal with it permanently.

Can you relate to my story? Do you find yourself becoming unhinged, slipping back into old ways of thinking, feeling and living? There is no point keeping our bad habits hidden. God wants to shed light on your dark spots so that we can get back to being the person He created us to be.

When we acknowledge that we have areas in our lives that we need to work on, when we repent for the things we may have said or done the enemy will have no power over us. He will have nothing that he can use to shame us with. We have brought everything to the feet of Jesus and He has forgiven us and now He desires to help us to no longer live or think that way.

Don’t feel like a failure or be ashamed when your bad habits begin to surface. See it as an opportunity to grow, to draw close to God once again and ask for His divine wisdom. He will continue to work with you on these things time and time again because He loves you unconditionally and longs to see you flourishing in life and for you to be happy.

What is it that unhinges you?Ask God to keep helping you with it.
